Rochester, N.Y. – July is just around the corner and warmer temperatures have some of us starting to feel the heat.
The City of Rochester announced this year’s Cool Sweep locations, which include libraries, community centers, and recreation centers.
Spray parks and cooling centers are set up throughout the city to help families cool down during the summer months.
As part of the National School Lunch Program, the Rochester City School District will also offer free breakfast and lunches for city kids at some of their locations.
“We in the district will essentially be producing the meals and shipping them out to 40 city recreational centers,” says RCSD Sr. Director of Operations Jerome Underwood.
The meals are available to those 18 years and younger through the USDA Summer Food Service Program.
Eighty nine percent of RCSD students participate in the school year program.
When temperatures get hotter than 90 degrees, the program also uses libraries as secondary locations where residents can cool off in an air conditioned building.
Cool Sweep hours are normally from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the forecast reaches above 85 degrees.
