Rochester, N.Y.- Five children who have overcome life-threatening medical conditions were celebrated at the annual Miracle Luncheon in Rochester Wednesday.
It’s held by Golisano Children’s Hospital at University of Rochester Medical Center.
The 2012 Miracle Kids are: Gavin Steel, a Seneca Falls baby who was diagnosed with both cystic fibrosis and a heart defect; Arieona Beasley, a 3-year-old with Down Syndrome who has faced an intense battle with acute myeloid leukemia; Charlie Levin, a boy from Williamsville who at 3 months old was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome; Nathan VanDeVoorde, a 5-year-old boy rushed to Golisano Children’s Hospital when he came down with a severe case of encephalitis with meningitis; and Grace Esposito, born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
Grace is the daughter of 13WHAM News anchor Jennifer Johnson and husband Vinnie Esposito.
At Wednesday’s luncheon the family thanked the hospital doctors and staff for all of the care Grace received.
“Grace’s case was very complex and not a lot of hospitals were equipped to handle it. We are so lucky to have one here in our community that could treat her,” said Jennifer Johnson.
The annual Miracle Luncheon also recognizes key hospital supporters.
