I'm reading a book called Stealing MySpace- page 10 is a mention of the singer that was on MySpace and because of it the media had access to give her true side and not just the report that she was a contractor for client 9. The internet is developing an audicence that has been develop by porn businessman. Hugh Hefner is living thru his new media giants.

taxablechump - I'll give you a hypothetical possibly true or not true example of what Henry was stating about companies using this slow economy to take advantage of their employee. T-Mobile/NCO outsourced. Call Center. Hires you. States $12/hr. $8.00/hr during training. Training's done. Then they say your pay equals $12/hr when combined with the "shift Differential" for working certain hours. Your hourly pay is now $9.00/hr. Then, they change it to a "shift Bonus" which allows them to make random changes at will. Such as "If you log back onto your phone .05 seconds after your break, you loosed the $164.00 difference out of you check for the next week. ect. These policies are subject to change at any given time. Your are forbiden to discuss your benefits (health care) with HR.

Turns out Michael Wilson is a growth industry in Erie County. This 22 year old NEW MONEY implant from Cleveland is the subject investigation of many government review agencies. You would think Buffalo would put out a welcome mat like they have for TO.

Tax - how do you know they will?

Sean - youve hit the nail on the head very succinctly - well stated

concerned - then why does 13 hang onto Don Alhart - by your thought, he should have been replaced with a younger person

Henry - just what does a company have to gain by "taking advantage" of an employee?

Henry - 7/1/2009 8:23 PM
I am just wondering.....I wonder how many companies are using this slow economy to take advantage of their employeeNow that would be a story.

I need to add my two-cents worth here. In regards to co's letting veteran workers go & employing recent college grads so to decrease their payroll, I am not finding that to be true, or at least not in the field of acct'g. I just finished my acct'g degree at Fisher in April & all the jobs that I see are for those w/ a four year degree AND at least two years experience & often times, more. How can I get experience if no one is willing to hire me w/o any? Don't they remember when THEY were first starting their career? How did they get their experience--did it just "come upon them?" No! Someone was gracious enough to hire them w/o experience & then took on the role of a mentor so the person could obtain the experience. Unfort., it is these same people who have forgotten that they, too, were “newbies” at one time & it is only b/c someone was willing to give them a chance they are where they are today. In a perfect world—which, sadly, is not what we live in—the inexperienced would be welcomed into a company by veteran workers who would be more than willing to teach the new-hires all the ins & outs of their career. By retaining veteran workers, it ensures that the quality of work would remain high, while at the same time, they could train the up-n-coming employees so they will be prepared to take over operations for when the veteran workers decide to call it a career. B/c of my struggle to obtain my first job, I have made a vow that when I finally get into a supervisory position, I will seek to hire those who don’t have experience; I don’t wish for anyone to go through what I have had to just b/c they don’t have experience…I will be more than willing to share w/ them some of mine. It’s the least I can do to make a positive impact on someone new to the field of accounting. (Or, whatever field I might be working in at that time.)

Same with all corporations. More than happy to bring on the fresh college grads who have no work ethics, are cheaper and quality means nothing. Oh...and did I say they know it all?
