Rochester, NY - Later this summer, viewers will see the greatest improvement to local news since the advent of color television.  13WHAM News is going High-Definition.

I am extremely proud and pleased that Rochester’s television news leader will soon be taking local news to a whole new viewing experience.  I can’t speak for everyone, but I believe most of us who have made the transition to High-Definition television in our homes now find it unacceptable to watch entertainment and sports programs in Standard Definition.  The difference is that dramatic.  I was just a baby when color television first made its mark, but I can imagine the difference in the viewing experience of High versus Standard Definition is much the same as it was between color and black and white 50 years ago.

Going hi-def is no easy task.  Millions of dollars worth of equipment is involved.  We are replacing just about every piece of broadcast equipment we have at 13WHAM.  We’re also replacing our news set and our graphics with a brand new state-of-the art look.   Even our logo is getting an update.  I hope the viewers will like it as much as I do.

The one thing that isn’t changing is the terrific people who bring you the news every day.  They really are the most important part of the product.  A television station can have all the bells and whistles, but if it doesn’t have the quality people like we are fortunate to employ, it doesn’t make much difference.

While High-Definition won’t make our top-notch anchors and reporters any better, it will make them look even better!
