I’m on Google Plus!
I was hesitant to jump on board yet another social media platform. I ditched Foursquare and Tumblr, not finding them useful enough in my job and personal life. (I blogged about checking out of Foursquare
here.)
But since I believe the future of news will be interactive and the ability to engage the audience will be highly-valued, I feel obligated to try out new platforms. You never know which ones will go the way of MySpace and which ones could be the next Facebook. It’s important for journalists to be where YOU are.
I’ve only spent a few hours on Google Plus, but I think it has the potential to be huge. It’s not fully-developed and you can only join by invite-only. But the interface is beautifully easy. Privacy settings, via Circles, are easy to figure out. (Everything you need to know about Google Plus is
here.)
I like Twitter better than Google Plus for skimming news articles and links. I like Google Plus better than Facebook for conversations and the simplicity of the platform. Google Plus seems like a nice cross between Twitter and Facebook.
I can see Google Plus giving Facebook and Twitter a run for their money, but only if masses of people decide the same thing. And that’s a big IF.
You can find me on Google Plus
here. Of course, you can always join me without an invitation at
Twitter and
Facebook.
