One Example of that Could Be the NY-27
While the race is just taking shape, many insiders on both sides of the aisle think Rep. Kathy Hochul (Democrat) is a clear-cut favorite in the newly drawn NY-27 which is the “Reddest” district in the state. (R+7 at last check) Former Erie County Executive Chris Collins holds a significant voter registration advantage but Hochul has quite a campaign war chest (close to $1M if not over by now) and is respected by both parties as an extremely hard worker.
Messaging will be key here too. I met Chris Collins for the first time this week and spent some time on-camera with him. I’ll aim to post that online once I have a similar interview with Rep. Hochul so voters in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, Ontario, Wyoming & parts of Monroe County can begin to size up their Congressional choices this November.
NY-24: The Buerkle-Maffei Rematch
This is going to be fun! Selfishly I wish more of our viewing area was included this district as a classic Congressional rematch is taking shape. We’ll keep tabs on it for our Wayne County viewers/readers as this figures to be one of the more closely watched races in the country. Maffei (Democrat) is now running for Congress for the fourth time. He lost a close one in 2006 to Rep. Jim Walsh and then Walsh retired paving the way for an easy 2008 victory before losing narrowly to Rep. Buerkle in one of the closest races in the country in 2010. (648 vote gap!)
Both are proven fundraisers with all the name recognition they’ll need in that district – keep an eye on this one Poli-Geeks!
Who Will The Dems Run For Monroe County Clerk?
It seems odd to me that they can’t find a candidate. Irondequoit Town Board Member Stephanie Aldersley was courted but declined and I’m told there’s another candidate being wooed but with deadline is fast approaching it doesn’t help to start a campaign this late. I mean the first and most consistent question should and will be, “why do you want to be county clerk and how badly do you really want this if you’re announcing in mid-late July?”
County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo is clearly going to be the favorite but a quality Democratic candidate could capitalize on an opportunity if the top of the ticket draws Dems to the polls in droves. I wonder why nobody is interested in taking that shot?
