Betty Cody Smith, founder of Miss Betty’s Slammin’ Sauce, is Rochester’s very own success story as well as a testament to strength, faith and perseverance. Her mother died when Miss Betty was two, and from that point on Miss Betty lived in a variety of foster homes, sometimes moving every three months. She struggled with depression and alcoholism, always finding refuge in the kitchen with her love of cooking and sauces. Now with three daughters, eight grandchildren, and a rapidly growing business, Miss Betty is poised to experience the greatest growth in the history of Slammin’ Sauce.
Miss Betty founded Miss Betty’s Slammin Sauce in 2000 and today her product is sold in numerous grocery and specialty stores including Wegmans, Tops/Martins, Jubilee, and Big M Supermarkets. In November of 2006, Miss Betty unveiled brand new product packing and announced several new regional partnerships along with the expansion of production and distribution of her line of specialty sauces.
Additionally, Miss Betty has partnered with Rochester’s Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Miss Betty’s specialty sauces go to benefit the organization.
Miss Betty brings a combination of southern soul and western New York flavor to Soul Plates! For more information on Soul Plates recipes, her sauces, or her background, call 585-544-6612 or email LadyMB777@yahoo.com.
