I agree with Thomas. Even some homes that I know of that were built too quickly and not allowed to settle caused problems. Doors no longer shut. Windows wouldn't close. Walls cracked....I don't know as I would consider this such a good thing for the Hills. Unless extreme makeover guarantee's the work and comes back to fix the problems.

I work for a building department and I asked the building inspectors if it was possible to build a quality new house in 1 week. They all agreed it was really impossible, cement and drywall compound can't cure properly, fill doesn't have time to settle, etc. Unfortunately the Hills are getting a new home of future headaches.

I have to agree with the sentimentality about old buildings. If they could save this somehow, it would have been great, but in 7 days? Not likely. From what I've heard, the foundation of the house is beyond repair and that is probably what tipped the balance in favor of the Hills. The only thing I would ask if it were my house is please do not over do it on the kids rooms like they always seem to!

Scooby, I am only 25 years old, but I too am very sentimental about historic buildings and I appreciate the value and memory in them. I just comfort myself to think that the family will have a house that doesn't have a damaged foundation (not sure if their current house does or not) and that they won't have to put any money into it for some time.

This is all wonderful, don't get me wrong, but it's a shame they have to demolish the house in the process. The place looks like it could be fixed up nicely, and has some historic value. I guess I'm just sentimental about old buildings.
