  • Mail a media alert or press release two weeks prior to your event to 13WHAM News Assignment Desk, 4225 West Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY, 14623, or email news@13wham.com.
  • Make sure your press release states the time, date, exact location of the event, and a contact name and phone number. If more than one event is taking place, give the information for each event on a separate page.
  • Keep in mind: Television is a visual medium. Make sure your event is as visually interesting as possible.
  • If your event is less than one week away, you can fax your press release to the assignment desk at (585) 334-8719. Keep in mind 13WHAM News gets hundreds of faxes each day, so we cannot tell you if your specific press release was received on a certain day.
  • You can follow up the day before your story or event by calling the newsroom.
  • Because more crews are assigned during the week between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this is usually a good time to schedule your event. We have fewer crews on weekends and evenings.
  • Keep in mind the event coverage is dependent upon the other news events occurring that day. Because our editors and producers finalize their plans each morning, they cannot tell you if the event will be covered until the day of the event. Even if we intend to cover an event, often breaking stories can force us to change our plans.
  • If you have a celebrity coming to your event, make sure you list a window of time they're expected to appear.
Example: Former Buffalo Bills Quarterback Jim Kelly is expected to sign autographs from 1 to 4 p.m. at Frontier Field.
  • Try to make your event topical. If it is around the holiday, take advantage of it by doing something that connects with the holiday or a major news event occurring the same day.
  • If you have a news tip or breaking news story, call our 13WHAM News hotline at (585) 334-8743.
