If 2011's Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival is going to set an attendance record, it's going to have to beat 2010.
Last year, more than 162,000 people hit the streets of downtown Rochester to attend the festival. Those crowds were a mix of local music fans and jazz lovers who came from around the country and around the world.
While there's no way to perfectly measure the economic impact, there's one thing to consider.
With 162,000 people attending the festival in 2010, many of them will spend their discretionary dollars in Rochester.
If the average person spent a modest $50, that would bring at least $8.1 million to Rochester.
Then add food, dining, merchandise and lodging to a person's festival spending - if the average person spent $200, that's about $34.4 million added to Rochester's economy.
