Rochester, N.Y. – Scottish jazz band NeWt played soft jazz under soft blue light inside Christ Church Tuesday night.

They’re one of several bands playing at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival under the banner Made in the UK.

The series features jazz musicians from the United Kingdom.

It took form at the Jazz Fest five years ago under the direction of Jazz Fest co-founder John Nugent and producer John Ellson.

Ellson says this program has gone gangbusters. He’s since moved the series to jazz festivals to cities across the U.S. and Canada.

But Rochester remains the most popular.

In fact, it’s the largest festival with UK jazz outside the United Kingdom.

“I’ve already started getting emails from British musicians wanting to come over here,” Ellson said.

Other musicians and bands playing this series include Get the Blessing, Liane Carroll Trio, Breach, Fraser Fifield, Osian Roberts/Steve Fishwick Quintet, Mark McKnight, Orlando Le Fleming Trio, and Arun Ghosh Quintet.
