The Heritage Singers

Host Charlotte Clarke interviews former SOTA choral director, Taione Martinez, about his brain child - the Rochester Heritage Singers. He explains the singing group performs the music of the African American tradition of spirituals and hymns so that students can learn and appreciate their own musical heritage. Over time the group expanded to include other community members. Martinez is currently Director of the nationally known Trenton Children’s Choir, but comes to Rochester regularly to direct the Heritage Singers. MVMV theme performed by The Heritage Singers.

Chinese Choral Society Of Rochester
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Chinese Choral Society of Rochester and they are celebrating with a special concert for the public at MCC Theatre on May 17th at 7:30pm. We will share two of their choral selections with you today! We will also hear about a special performance produced by Miss Sweet Potato Pie featuring two teen co-hosts. The Black Storytelling League of Rochester

“Liars, Laughs and Lunch” is the title of a special event sponsored by the Black STORYTELLING League of Rochester. There will be stories to tell and that’s no lie! We will also talk to Dr. David Anderson about a special event commemorating 200,000 men of color who fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. And, we’ll talk to members of Rochester’s African American Women’s Gospel Choir, AKOMA about their annual scholarship concert. MVMV theme performed by AKOMA.

Where Are The Moderate Muslims?
Filmmaker, Mara Ahmed talks about her film “The Muslims I Know” featuring one Muslim community in Rochester. The show premieres at the Dryden Theatre June 8th and we’ll give you a preview and talk about the making of the film and its intent. MVMV theme performed by the Children’s Choir of the Rochester Islamic Center.

About the show
"Many Voices, Many Visions" is a multicultural public affairs program airing on 13WHAM-TV Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. The show explores our community's diversity in terms of race, ethnicity, creed, age, gender, gender orientation and ability. Teachers are invited to tape the programs for educational use. Each week the original "Many Voices, Many Visions" theme song is performed by different Rochester community members. Student performances are welcome.
