Growing up in Hamburg, New York, there was an allure about the weather around him that intrigued Howard so much that he knew his fascination with weather would lead him to a career trying to understand it.
Living close to Lake Erie, he became accustomed to heavy lake effect snow events early in his life. In one particular storm during the early 1980’s, he remembers there being enough snow to climb up onto the roof of the house and jump into the snow piled in the front yard! After receiving his driver’s license, he would frequently drive down to the lake and watch thunderstorms as they rolled in across the lake, oftentimes getting up in the middle of the night to do so. It was this passion, awe and desire to know more about the weather that lead him to The State University of New York College at Brockport, where he graduated in May of 2007 with a B.S. in Meteorology.
Howard joined the 13WHAM weather team in January 2005. He started working the early morning "behind the scenes" shift from 3:30AM until 7:00AM, all while attending school full time. Occasionally, an afternoon shift would be needed, and it was this shift that helped him prepare for delivering the weather forecast to the public. Eventually, an on-air opportunity presented itself, and he can be seen regularly on Thursday’s edition of 13WHAM Midday or filling in when needed.
A member of the National Weather Association, Howard enjoys reading the latest publications and applying newly acquired knowledge to his forecasts. In his spare time, he enjoys reading military literature, going fishing, playing a variety of sports including bowling, softball, volleyball and darts; and when vacation is available, visiting his parents in the country. However, like many Buffalonians and their professional sports teams, he has a rabid obsession with watching, and rooting for the Bills and Sabres.
