Jon joined 13WHAM’s sports department in March, after graduating with a master’s degree in broadcast and digital journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
Originally from Modesto, CA, Jon received his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley, where he tripled as a writer at the Daily Californian, sports director and play-by-play broadcaster at KALX 90.7 FM, and as a multimedia reporter for Scout.com.
Before arriving in Rochester, Jon spent time as a multimedia correspondent in Washington, D.C., reporting for WSYR-TV, the ABC-affiliate in Syracuse. During his time there, he covered the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement and the perjury trial of Roger Clemens, among other stories.
Through his career, Jon has covered six NCAA basketball tournaments and six college football bowls, including the 2011 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. He’s been named “Columnist of the Year” in the Greater Pacific Region by the Society of Professional Journalists, and was nominated for college broadcaster of the year.
Though he still considers himself a Californian, Jon enjoyed his time in Central/Western New York while at Syracuse, and looks forward to making a new home in Rochester.
