Rachel Barnhart loves covering the news in her hometown.
Rachel grew up in Rochester’s Maplewood neighborhood and graduated from John Marshall High School. She went on to get a degree in communication from Cornell University.
While in college, she interned at R News, 20/20, and the Fox News Channel.
Rachel started her career in Elmira, N.Y. at WENY-TV, where she was a reporter and weekend anchor. She came back to Rochester to report and produce for R News. Rachel then moved to WROC-TV, where she spent five years as a reporter and weekend anchor. She landed at 13WHAM News in April 2006.
Rachel enjoys covering politics, economic development, downtown and education. She’s led the way in social media by journalists in Upstate New York. City Newspaper named her Twitter account and blog the best in Rochester in 2012. Rachel is always communicating with viewers and sharing the latest news online.
Rachel is an avid swimmer. The pool is the only place she can’t tweet.
