Postal Service Preps For Busiest Day

Henrietta, N.Y. — It’s rare that you’ll find your local post office open on a Sunday; except on this one. The Jefferson Road Post Office was open until 3 p.m. Sunday. Part of the reason the USPS opened it, was to help customers, but it’s not the only reason.

“It also helps our employees in the post office get people through,” said Karen Mazurkiewicz, spokesperson for the USPS.

There will be roughly 1.5 million letters and cards passing through the Jefferson Road office Monday; it represents five times the mail that is generally processed on a Monday, according to Mazurkiewicz.

There are extra trucks, and postal workers, but the USPS suggests skipping the trip if you can buy stamps elsewhere. Should you need to visit an office to send a larger package, workers recommend getting to the branch early.

“Sometimes you help yourself by being prepared,” said Mazurkiewicz. “Having everything to go and having a good address (helps).
