Albany, N.Y. – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo temporarily waived state regulations Sunday to allow thousands of cases of fresh drinking water to be distributed to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued waivers for container deposit requirements for water donated by manufacturers.
The Order allows Anheuser-Busch to donate thousands of cases of canned drinking water, which it would not have been able to do under prior regulations.
“It is critical that safe drinking water supplies can reach New Yorkers in need as soon as possible,” Cuomo said. “The actions taken by the State today to help companies distribute bottled water to hard hit communities are the right and practical thing to do, while still protecting the public’s health and safety. I thank the companies for their donations to help New Yorkers during this time of emergency.”
