Rochester, N.Y. - If you haven't paid $4 for a gallon of regular gas, you will soon.
The current average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.94 in the Rochester area. That's up from $3.87 a week ago. Both prices are higher than the current national average of $3.76 per gallon.
13WHAM asked Congresswoman Louise Slaughter about the rising prices.
Slaughter said every time she looks into gas prices, it's the same answer.
"We have looked into the answer. They had fires at refineries, they keep it the same...same answer all the time," Slaughter said.
Slaughter says she has investigated gas prices in the past to see if there was any evidence of price gouging.
She says she's found prices are always higher in New York because of our high taxes, and because gas companies feel that people in the Rochester area will tolerate higher prices.
Slaughter also says we're importing less foreign oil, which also makes difference.
