Rochester, N.Y.- If you get a parking ticket in the city of Rochester, it’s going to cost you more.
Fines for tickets increased Thursday.
The hike was included in the City's fiscal year 2012-13 budget and is the first increase of parking ticket fines in more than 10 years.
Most parking fines will rise by $10 with the exception of parking without a permit in a handicapped marked space and parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
The new fines, all of which include a New York State surcharge of $15 (and an additional $30 for illegal handicapped parking), will be as follows:
* Overtime or expired time for meter, pay station or non-meter parking: From $25 to $35;
* Parking in a restricted area: alternate parking; no parking; parking restrictions during snow operations; expired registration or expired inspection: From $35 to 45;
* Parking less than 15 feet from hydrant: From $70 to $100;
* Parking in a handicapped zone without a placard: From $100 to $130.
Revenue from parking fines goes to the Parking Trust Fund which uses the money to maintain the parking garages and surface lots.
