(Rochester, N.Y.) – Testimony in the trial of a suspended Greece Police officer wrapped up Friday. Closing arguments will be heard Monday in the case of Gary Pignato who stands accused of coercing a woman into having sex.
The prosecution rested around two o'clock Friday after the defense chose not to call any witnesses.
According to the alleged victim, the incident happened in the summer of 2005 at her apartment in Greece.
She said Pignato drove into her parking lot as she was coming home from work. As she was taking her small child out of his car seat, the woman said Pignato called her over to his car.
She said Pignato called her "hot" and "asked about her “sex life.” He then allegedly gave her a business card with his name and number on the back.
The woman testified that later that week she was smoking pot in her apartment when her three sons were not home. She told the jury that Pignato, in uniform, let himself into her apartment through an open sliding glass door. He told her she could get into trouble -- but told her he could "make it all go away" -- if "she had sex with him."
The two arranged a meeting at Pignato’s home in Hilton where they had sex.
Pignato's attorney, Scott Green, asked the woman why she never reported the incident with Pignato to the police.
She replied that she just didn't trust them.
