Rochester, N.Y. - Some former Kodak employees are asking a judge to appoint a retiree committee to protect their benefits as the company reorganizes under bankruptcy protection.

The retirees say in a motion filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court that a committee is appropriate given Kodak's current proposal to end health care benefits for about 16,000 retirees who are eligible for Medicare.

In a separate motion filed Tuesday, the retirees object to the benefits change. They say altering retiree benefits would be premature in light of Kodak's plans to submit a reorganization plan early next year.

A hearing on the issue is scheduled for March 20.
