Xanadu54, I have Midtown Plaza interior demolition photos on my website and on my Flickr page. Someone from Cambria told me not to take them, but I did anyway. Maybe the giant rat picketers can use these in their war against Cambria? I have some good ones showing asbestos dust entering the air!

What's w/the giant rat at Midtown. Maybe the idea that these are non-union workers, or that asbestos is a dangerous substance and there is not enough protection being offered to the workers, let's see, another thing, the dumpster is OPEN and even though has a broken tape stating asbestos, it is in the air. Hmmmmmmmm, safety. I think not. Know of people that were painters that didn't even work w/asbestos other than being in the vicinity that have mesothelioma related illnesses. Now, tell me about a paper coverall and paper face mask being protective. Yeah right!

I think the economy defiantly makes these jobs more attractive, but I would also agree that the individual cannot, and should not trust their safety solely to their employer. They are going through training, so they should be able to recognize safe working conditions. There must be a measure of accountability on the employee’s part as well as the employer.

Rachael .. My Dad was a survivor of that! I'll contact you from my facebook. You just hit the tip of the ice berg...And to throw the economy into this? hmmm..

Every Midtown related website link was posted on this article except for mine. Banjes1, I agree with you. WayneGrow, I wouldn´t remove asbestos even if I was paid $500.00 an hour! I lived in a house for almost 14 years that was chock full of this cancer causing crap! I had to have a chest x-ray done eight years ago because I was coughing to the point where I could barely breathe.

Rbarn, given the deterioration of principles and values in our country, I seriously doubt that Asbestos remediation business owners will cut into their profits to buy employees the equipment that will TRULY ensure their safety. Think about it... Do you really think many (ANY) people start one of these businesses for just altruistic reasons? Of course not, it's all about PROFIT. Profit means minimizing expenditures to these folks, and as a result asbestos WORKERS will suffer.

Sorry about your Dad. This type of work isn't worth the risk IMO no matter how much they pay or say it's safe.

Do you think the economy is making these jobs more attractive? Are safety standards enhanced these days?
