(Rochester, N.Y.) – The City of Rochester expects to get the titles to the Midtown properties May 1, according to legislation submitted to City Council.

The legislation would fund a number of items related to the project, including $900,000 for maintenance until the complex is torn down.

The city expects to begin demolition in early 2009.

Tenants have to be out in June. Relocating the tenants will cost about $5.5 million.

“It's difficult for us right now, because a majority of people in the community think we're already gone. We no longer exist...so we don't get patronized,” said Pert pointer, of Pert’s Boutique.

The city is acquiring Midtown through eminent domain and is prepared to spend $5.9 million on the purchase.

I never go down town very often. why should i? I dont feel safe. Like Lariax said we dont need more corporate businesses. How is that going to bring people downtown? We are all will be so excited when they open paetac head quarters-every one is going to rush downtown to go see it.-NOT! Till this new building is open a empty building sits. that look real good for any one getting off a grey hound buss downtown. Cant go into the mall to cvs or burgerking or even shop for any thing. city and county just wasting money to make money. but in the long run they will loose the battle. Are new motto should be WELCOME TO ROCHESTER THE GHOST TOWN.

So we are going to bring a few hundred more people downtown for work, but have nothing for them - no shopping, drugstores, hair salons, post office, restaurants, etc. What's the point of being downtown? We need to save the stores that are already there plus add many more. We certainly do not need any more corporate businesses nor do we need any improved bus or transit depot.

...And if the state decides to cut this out of the budget???? Guess the city will then be stuck with an empty building costing 1 mil a year.... Once again, the cart before the horse...
