(Rochester, N.Y.) – Midtown Plaza closes to the public this week. The complex is slated to be demolished to make way for PAETEC’s world headquarters.
Peebles department store closed on Saturday, leaving downtown without a department store. Peebles will not be relocating downtown, but is opening several stores in more rural areas, including Canandaigua.
Customers say they will miss the bargains and convenience.
“They got good clothes, brands, and now they're closing which is a sad thing,” said John Merced.
“I come every Friday to buy clothes. They know me. It's good to come here and buy clothes. We going to miss it,” said Mildred DeJesus.
“They give out coupons. They sell men's stuff. I have one 20-year-old son. I didn't have to go all the way out to Men's Warehouse or Burlington's,” said Carolyn Moton.
Midtown closes to the public for good on Friday, July 25. There will be a public hearing on the scope of the environmental review on July 29. The parking garage closes on September 30. Demolition is slated to begin in June 2009.
