Rochester, N.Y. – If you haven’t been downtown recently, brace yourself.
The landscape of Main Street has changed dramatically in just a few short weeks. The entire frontage of Midtown Plaza is well on its way to being demolished. Work on the hulking McCurdy’s building started last month and the public has a front-row seat.
Drew Costanza, whose family owns the Temple Building across the street, took 13WHAM News up to the rooftop of the loft apartment building.
“It’s starting to sink in that this is going to happen. When you see the wrecking ball actually start to knock this down, you believe it’s really happening,” he said. “For the first time you can sign me into the ‘I’m in the believer column.’”
Much of the 8-acre site will be clear by the end of the year. PAETEC Communications plans to start site work this year. The company released updated renderings of the building design last week. Christa and Morgan plan to put luxury apartments into Midtown Tower.
The city has several remaining parcels for development.
