Challa Bread from Coleen's Cafe

This recipe can be enjoyed on its own, or it can serve as the base for french toast. We'll have the recipe for Banana's Foster French Toast next week!

For the challa bread:

Start with a 1 and 1/4 cup hot water and 1.5 Tbsp of dry yeast.
Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup oil to the water.
Then add five eggs and mix thoroughly.
Then add 7 and 1/2 cups flour.

Pre-mix the flour by hand; finish mixing with mixer.

Let the dough rest for 60 minutes.

Then, punch the dough down, and let it rest another 30 minutes.

After an hour, cut the dough into six equal pieces. Lay out the pieces and braid the dough into one beautiful loaf. This is a work of art; see the video for Coleen's explanation on how to do it!

Give the braided dough an egg wash, then bake for roughly an hour at 350 degrees.

When the bread is finished, enjoy, or frost it to add more appeal!
