We know the Bills need a quarterback. We know they need a change at head coach. We know they are desperate for help on both sides of the line. But first and foremost they need to get the guy to make those decisions.  They need a football man in charge.  That should be priority one for this organization. I have an idea.  The Bills need to be like Chief Brody in the famous movie from the 70’s, they need to go after Jaws.

The Jaws I am talking about is Ron Jaworski.  Yes, the former Eagles quarterback and current Monday Night Football analyst.  If I were Russ Brandon I would be on the phone with him and tell him I want him to come home. Jaws is a Lackawana guy.  He has talked about being a kid and going to the Rockpile. He has a connection to Buffalo. He is also very well connected in the NFL, has a great deal of respect, watches more film than Roger Ebert and has a personality and enthusiasm that the fans would love.

I have no idea if Ron Jaworski would have any interest in the Bills job, or any other front office position in the NFL. But you can’t tell me he hasn’t thought about it.  Watch him on ESPN as he breaks down tape of an offense or a quarterback and you feel like you are in a Masters level football classroom. Listen to him rave about a players work ethic and attitude and you get the feeling he knows what it takes to find the “self motivated” players the Bills always talk about.  Watch old film of him getting pounded by LT, but then leading an Eagles team to a Super Bowl and you know he’s got the toughness and patience to hang in there.

Some people might ask why a guy would leave the comfort of the MNF booth to run the Bills.  For all the negative energy surrounding this franchise for the last decade, it is still one of only 32 teams in the dominant sport in the USA.  Chances to run an NFL team do not come around too often.  Ron Jaworski is a competitive guy who has an ego too. Get Jaws into Orchard Park. Let him pick the team’s next head coach. Let him watch all that tape and pick the team’s next quarterback.  It can’t hurt to ask.
