ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - George Edwards is out as the Bills defensive coordinator, having been removed from those duties by head coach Chan Gailey on Monday afternoon.
Gailey has tabbed linebackers coach Dave Wannstedt to replace Edwards as Buffalo's new defensive coordinator.
Buffalo's defense struggled throughout the course of the season, even during the team's 5-2 start at the outset of the season. Buffalo's defense ranked 30th in points allowed and 26th in yards allowed in the NFL.
Edwards spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator under Gailey, joining the Bills after a long career with the Miami Dolphins as the team's linebackers coach.
Wannstedt, a friend of Chan Gailey, was hired this past offseason as the team's linebackers coach and assistant head coach. Prior to joining the Bills, Wannstedt has been a head coach in the NFL with Chicago and Miami, as well as at his alma mater, Pittsburgh.
