BOSTON - Shawn Evans capped a remarkable comeback with a goal 48 seconds into overtime sending the Rochester Knighthawks past the Boston Blazers, 11-10. Rochester netted four of the game’s last five goals, including one with six seconds left to force the extra frame.
Shawn Williams led Rochester with seven points (2+5) was huge down the stretch scoring two of the goals and assisting on the game’s last three goals. Cody Jamieson recorded his second straight hat trick and Evans notched three goals and one assist. Matt Vinc made 39 saves as Rochester moved into a second-place tie in the East with a 2-1 record.
Boston lost in overtime for the second time in two nights. Casey Powell had a monster performance with four goals and three assists. The other two members of the Big Three also contributed as Dan Dawson (0+6) and Josh Sanderson (4+2) each notched six-point efforts. Anthony Cosmo stopped 27 shots in the loss.
Jamieson has two goals for the Knighthawks in the first half, as Rochester jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 4-1 before Powell led a Boston comeback. The Blazers forward netted three of his team's five second-quarter goals. Boston took its first lead of the contest at 10:41 of the third on Powell's fourth of the night to give the Blazers a 7-6 advantage. The Blazers increased its lead to 9-6 with a 4-0 run that also included tallies by Kevin Buchanan and Josh Sanderson.
Williams scored two straight goals to break a 10-minute scoreless drought and pull his team within one. Sanderson answered at 8:38 to make it 10-8 Boston. Rochester, however, was not done as Evans scored from the left-wing side at 12:51 and Jamieson tied it with six seconds left. In OT, Evans got free from his defender and roofed a shot past Cosmo for the game winner.
