ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The National Lacrosse League has announced the reserves for the 2011 All-Star Game, presented by the Oneida Indian Nation, and Rochester Knighthawks Shawn Evans, Cody Jamieson and Sid Smith have been selected to the East Division lineup.
The trio joins defenseman Pat McCready, who was named an All-Star starter earlier this week, as Knighthawks playing in the game at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort Casino. The game from Verona, NY, will take place on Sunday, February 27th at 2:00 p.m. and will be televised live on VERSUS. Go to NLL.com for ticket information.
Evans will play in his first All-Star Game. The sixth-year pro is coming off one of the most productive games in his six-year career. He was named the NLL Overall Player of the Week after notching 10 points, including a career-best nine assists, in a win over the Philadelphia Wings last Saturday. Evans leads the Knighthawks with 25 points and is tied for eighth in the NLL with 18 assists. He also passed Duane Jacobs for fourth all-time on the Knighthawks’ assist list. He was recently named to the Team Canada for the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.
“I am very excited to be asked to play in the All-Star Game,” said Evans. “It should be fun playing with such skilled players. It’s a first for me (playing in the game).”
Jamieson and Smith will also make their first All-Star appearances. Jamieson, who was the No. 1 overall pick in September, leads all rookies in points with 18 (13+5). He has won three Rookie of the Week honors in the first five weeks of the season. The former SU star has recorded 10 goals and five assists in his last four games. Jamieson and Smith were both members of the 2009 NCAA National Championship team.
“It’s unbelievable to be selected. To be in the same room as so many great players is going to be exciting,” said Jamieson.
Smith, who was the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, has been stellar in defense this season for the Knighthawks. The former Syracuse standout has been versatile this season, recording one assist, 17 loose balls, seven forced turnovers and four faceoff wins. Last season, he was named the Knighthawks’ co-Defensive Player of the Year.
