ROCHESTER -- Penfield native Chris Schiller
re-signed and agreed to a three-year deal with his hometown Rochester Knighthawks. He will enter his 10th season with the Rochester Knighthawks in 2011.
“I am really excited to get back for another season with my hometown team. This season, above any, I am looking forward to because we have a lot of disappointed people out there including our fans and ownership,” said Schiller about missing the playoffs by one game in 2010. “We have a lot to look forward to this year with the ‘Hawks and we will have high expectations no matter what happened last year.
“It starts with training camp and getting a new attitude about what it is going to take to win this thing. We can't/don't care about the talent we have,” he added. “We have to start caring about what we are going to do, how much work we are going to put in, to succeed. You will see a different attitude and work ethic out of this team.”
Schiller, 33, has had a memorable summer, winning a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships. He added his gold medal to his National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse championship rings. Schiller was a member of the Knighthawks 2007 championship team and played for the 2008 Rochester Rattlers that won the Steinfeld Cup.
Last season the defenseman/transition man averaged nearly a point per game in 13 contests and registered 70 loose balls. The McQuaid High School product holds an esteemed place in Knighthawks history. He is tied for sixth on the team in games played (114) and is seventh all-time in loose balls with 620. Schiller is also a three-time winner of the team’s Unsung Hero award (2002-03, 2006 and 2008).
