Pittsford, N.Y. - Abby Wambach can now officially be called the top women's soccer player in the world.
The Pittsford native won the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Award Monday.
Wambach is the first American to win the world's top female honors since Mia Hamm in 2001 and 2002.
Abby finished third in the voting in 2011, fourth in 2004 and 2006 and fifth in 2007 and 2010.
Wambach beat out teammate Alex Morgan, who was named U.S. Soccer's Female Athlete of the Year for 2012.
The award was presented Monday in Zurich.
