The LPGA’s 2012 ad campaign asks golf fans to “see why it’s different out here.”

Well, this certainly is different.

Starting this weekend, the LPGA is turning their caddies into social billboards, posting twitter handles on back of their bibs.

Some of the players have alreayd put their lives out there on social media, like 17-year old phenom lexi thompson, who posted this video on youtube, inviting service men to enter a contest on her facebook, to take her to prom

The tour probably didn’t come up with this idea as a way to solicit dates for their players, but golfers on tour are noticing that social media sites like twitter, have helped them connect with fans.

Currently, the LPGA as a whole, that includes the tour, it’s players and its tournaments have over a million followers on twitter. If the bibs work, we might see them elsewhere.
