Baltimore, MD (Rochester Lancers )– The Rochester Lancers (7-10) lost a hard fought match to the Baltimore Blast (13-4) by a score of 8-7. Carlos “Chile” Farias scored a 3-point goal to pull the Lancers to within a point in the final minutes. Lubo and Jake Schindler scored 2-point goals for the Lancers while Jeremy Ortiz and Grady Renfrow picked up assists. Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan made nine saves, including a huge save late on Adriano Dos Santos.
In the opening fifteen minutes, both teams were able to kill off a man disadvantage and stifle a couple of glorious scoring chances per side. And after one quarter of play, the match was still scoreless.
Less than three minutes into the second-quarter, Baltimore took advantage of a top of the arc restart as Max Ferdinand set up Carlos Garcia for the opening goal of the game. Baltimore captain Mike Lookingland would convert a powerplay goal from Adauto Neto with three seconds remaining in the quarter to give Baltimore a 4-0 half-time lead.
The Lancers would get on the board just ten seconds into the third-quarter as Lubo would clean up the rebound of a Jeremy Ortiz shot. Machel Millwood would push the Blast lead back to four as his free kick deflected off of a Lancers defender and into the goal as the Blast would lead 6-2 after three quarters of play.
The Lancers would again pull back to within a goal as Jake Schindler took the pass from Grady Renfrow and his shot deflected off of Lookingland and past Sagu. Baltimore was able to once again make it a two goal game as Mike Deasel battled hard and headed home an assist from Millwood. Carlos “Chile” Farias would pull the Lancers to within a point on a 3-point free kick goal. But, it wouldn’t be enough as the Blast would hold on for the 8-7 win.
