They now stand alone in the NFL.
With the Lions and Houston Texans making the playoffs this season, every team in the National Football League not named the Buffalo Bills has made the post season since we moved into the 21
st Century. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad that in a league where it’s tough to stay this bad for this long the Bills always seem to find a way.
Don’t think for a moment that I cam going to suggest that the Bills get Bill Polian to come back or sign Peyton Manning after he is cut by the Colts. These are the type of suggestions I hear from fans. Of course I also have people tell me the Bills missed the boat by not signing T.O. again this year. Those people obviously did not realize Owens did not play anywhere this year. But neither Polian or Manning has a remote chance of happening. Bill Polian left
Orchard Park in his rear view mirror when he had a Super Bowl roster. Do you think he would end his career coming back to work for Ralph (it did not end well) with the current group under contract? Peyton Manning?
Sure. One of the all-time greats might get cut by
Indianapolis and with his pick of teams to go to in order to prove he can still play he picks
Buffalo.
Let’s focus on what needs to happen for 2012. The Bills need to get help and plenty of it on defense. They need a pass rusher or two, a corner back or two and solid backups all around. Buddy Nix needs to draft very well and go out and sign some middle tier free agents to be backups and spot starters on defense. This group was see through thin this year and when guys like Kyle Williams got hurt there was no one left to play NFL caliber football behind them.
On offense I am every conflicted about Stevie Johnson. I am extremely disappointed that after the mess he caused at the Jets he would come back with that silliness in Foxboro. He stood up in the Meadowlands and admitted what he did was stupid,. Then 5 weeks later he somehow thinks some silly New Year’s message is more important than concentrating on winning a game. Wake up Stevie. You are not some kid just playing a game. You are a man with a family trying to make a very good living. It’s time to grow up and accept some level of maturity if you want to be an overly compensated professional athlete.
We have plenty of time to look at the draft and free agency and see where the Bills can make some major improvements. In the meantime lets watch how the other 31 have lived in the 200’s. It’s called the playoffs. We’d like the Bills to go back to that world some time soon
