Jim Boeheim has tried to make the point that he is just the basketball coach at Syracuse and his real power begins and ends there. We all know that is not the case. Boeheim is the most recognizable person in all of Central New York and he has the ability to impact people's opinions more than any person at Syracuse University. I said that when I was disappointed in Boeheim's post game talk after the Eastern Michigan game. Now I am pleased to say his quick change of tune and tone and his heartfelt opinion can be just as impactful. Friday night Boeheim took to the podium like the Hall of Fame leader that he has been on the court for so many years. He was speaking with real emotion when he made his apology for earlier comments. Boeheim looked and sounded 100 percent sincere when he spoke of his newfound dedication to helping a victim's group in Syracuse. He spoke in a way that will allow and encourage this disturbing investigation to go forward and put the focus where it belongs, on the victims of the alleged crimes.
The byproduct of Coach Boeheim's altered opinion is that it will allow his current players to move forward and concentrate on what they are at Syracuse to accomplish (go to school and play basketball). SU has what appears to be a special team this season and these players have every right to want to move ahead. Their coach led them in the right direction last Friday. Let's hope it continues and that some Syracuse University administrators follow the lead of their basketball coach
