Rush/Henrietta/Syracuse, N.Y. - Rush Henrietta football star Ashton Broyld will not be playing at Syracuse University in 2011 due to academic concerns.
Sources tell 13 WHAM News that Broyld has not yet met the necessary standards to qualify to compete in NCAA competition.
The New York State player of the year, who was expected to compete to play quarterback for the Orange, is now expected to attend a prep' school in the fall and then attempt to attain the needed academic requirements to be admitted to Syracuse for the spring semester.
Syracuse football coach Doug Marrone would only confirm that Broyld would not be on the team this fall, but would not address the academic issue, only saying that Broyld had "work to do."
Broyld did plead guilty to a change of disorderly conduct stemming from an incident after a basketball game this spring, but that is not the cause of his inability to play for Syracuse in 2011.
