Everyone is wondering about the lack of snow this season and what it might mean for the rest of our winter. So far December has produced only 1.8" of snow in Rochester. The outlook through next week is still mild with only limited chances for area-wide snow. 13 WHAM Meteorologist Mark McLean did a little research and looked for a correlation to months of December that ended with less than 10" of snow. He found that since 1940 the area had 13 Decembers with less than 10" of snow. In that sampling seasonal snowfall was as high as 130.8" in 1957 and as low as 41.7" in 1952. But the overall average snowfall was well below normal in those years measuring only 74.9". Recently, December 2006 was the warmest on record in Rochester and had only 4.3" of snow.
