A recent article in the Washington Post outlined the most extreme international weather of 2011. The deadliest weather by far was the severe drought in Somalia and Ethiopia. By some accounts it was the worst drought in 6 decades and has lasted more then a year. This event contributed to the death of over 30,000 children. In contrast, there was major flooding that took place in Thailand. A viewer from Rochester who was in Thailand and stated it was worse than our Hurricane Katrina. Accounts show that it was the worst flooding in that country in over 50 years. More recently, this December produced flash flooding from Tropical Storm Washi in the Philippines killing well over 1,200 people. And lastly, and less publicized, was the flash flooding in Brazil which is believed to be the deadliest weather event in Brazil’s history killing close to 1000 people
