March weather summary for Rochester

The month of March has come and gone. How did Rochester fare when comparing weather statistics? You may remember that the first half of the month was mild compared to normal and the second half very cold. This stark contrast actually smoothed out the monthly average temperature to 33.8 degrees, which was just 0.1 degrees below normal. Rochester had two significant snow events on the 6th and 23rd and almost all of March’s snow fell on these dates. Overall, the month measured 15.1” of snow which was 1.5” below the typical 16.6” for Rochester. Total monthly precipitation was 2.67”, only 0.09” above normal. According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo it was also a sunny month.  Average sun was around 54% in Western New York.
