It may not be warming the temperature too much today, but have you noticed the angle of the sun is constantly increasing? This higher sun angle means the light of the sun is falling more directly on Rochester. On the shortest day of the year (December 21) the sun is only 23.4 degrees above the horizon. However, at the Equinox (March 20 and September 22) the sun is at 47 degrees above the horizon. And on the longest day of the year (June 21) the sun is 70.3 degrees above the horizon. So the sun angle changes almost 47 degrees in altitude above the horizon in Rochester from December 21 through June 21. Some would say this increasing sun angle also increases our spirits as daylight increases nearly 3 minutes each day through the month of April.
