We have more information coming in on the historic tornado outbreak that occurred from April 25th-28th. According to meteorologists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 305 tornadoes were observed during this stretch. This broke the previous record of 148 twisters during the infamous outbreak of April 3rd-4th in 1974. You may remember that in that event Xenia, Ohio was nearly completely destroyed. This most recent outbreak claimed the lives of 327 people making this the 3rd deadliest in recorded history. NOAA also estimates that 600 tornadoes developed in April 2011, shattering the old record of 267 tornadoes from 1974. April 2011 also set the all-time record for most tornadoes in any month, surpassing the 542 tornadoes which was recorded in May 2003. So far in 2011, the U.S. has experienced 881 tornadoes.
