Portions of Rochester saw the first snow flakes of the season Friday morning. No accumulation locally, but enough to remind us that it is November. According to National Weather Service, records for Rochester show the average date for the first snow flakes usually occur by October 23rd, while measurable snowfall usually happens by November 8th. Both those dates have come and gone. And looking ahead there is no indication of any significant winter weather during the upcoming week. There has been only one year the airport has recorded no snow for the month of November. That was back in 1952. In addition, the latest measurable snowfall for Rochester (0.1" or more) was on December 10, 1948. It should be noted that a slow start to the snow season does not indicate there will be less snowfall for the entire season.
