You don't have to live by water to be at risk for flooding. A 'low-risk' area doesn't mean a 'no-risk' area of flooding. Thirty percent of all flood insurance claims come from low-risk areas. You might consider a preferred risk policy, which is specifically designed for homeowners in low-risk areas. Qualifications for this type of insurance may include what type of dwelling you own, where you live and how many times you've made flood claims. Some insurance companies require a waiting period for flood insurance to take effect, so be prepared. Consult an insurance agency for information about flood insurance.
