Focus On Athletes’ Concussions Changes Recommendations

For the first time in more than 15 years experts are changing recommendations for athletes' return to the field after taking hits to the head.

It's long been recommended that athletes with suspected concussions be benched immediately --and encouraged to wait at least 10 days before returning to the game.

Now, doctors say coaches need to take things on a case-by-case basis.

The American Academy of Neurology also says it's important that coaches consider taking players out of the game after mild hits to the head -- not just following obvious injuries.
