Rochester, N.Y. - Members of a Rochester's brain injury support group met a hometown hero Wednesday.
Rochester Police Officer Anthony Di Ponzio was shot in the head while on patrol in 2009.
He offered hope and support to the group--and it was welcomed.
“We've always been interested in having someone, a public figure in Rochester, speak to our group because a lot of the people in our group feel alone,” said group member Katie Pierce. “It’s nice to know that there's someone who represents us in Rochester.
“What I hope to do tonight is to tell people there is life after a brain injury,” DiPonzio said. “You just have to learn to adapt to the new challenges you have to deal with.” He is doing better, he says, and recently began working full 8-hour shifts on the force.
