Rochester, N.Y. – Today is Dr. Morris Shapiro’s 99th birthday.
His friends and colleagues are throwing him a little party at URMC Helen Wood Hall, at 10 a.m.
He is the oldest active faculty member at the medical center and his passion about medicine is well-known in the community.
Dr. Shapiro works five days a week between U of R’s Medical Center and the Emergency Medicine offices at Corporate Woods. Not only that, but he attends almost every Emergency Medicine lecture and Surgery grand rounds.
The professor of Emergency Medicine and professor emeritus of Surgery has been practicing since 1946.
Just one of many contributions to the community is his development of the first testing center for women with breast lumps.
