Rochester, N.Y.- Curious what your x-ray or lab tests will cost when you go to the hospital? Starting Monday, Rochester General Hospital is posting prices of its most common tests and procedures for uninsured patients.

The price list also includes emergency room, lab, and radiology charges along with room and board and surgical procedures.

The fees are hospital charges only. Physician and Anesthesiologist fees are billed separately.

John Midolo, the Vice President of Finance for Rochester General Health System says with the advent of large co-pays and deductibles, they’re seeing a lot more interest from patients on what the costs are going to be.

“In the old days when insurance most of your paid your bill, you had a standard deductible people really didn’t care what it cost they knew the insurance company would pay it,” said Midolo. “Now that patients are paying at a greater share they’re calling in. We have a group of customer service reps that take those calls. Based on their feedback the most common questions are really the pricing we put out there.”

Rochester General sees about 40,000 uninsured patients a year.

Midolo says they hope to eventually list prices for people with insurance.
