(13WHAM-TV) - Soccer is one of the few sports that doesn't require any protective head gear.

However, a new study that looked at pro players in Germany suggests that playing soccer could cause changes to certain areas of the brain, even in players who haven't had a serious head injury.

In particular, researchers are focusing on headers, a move when players pass the ball or score using their head or blunt contact.

Researchers said they need to study the issue more, and said parents shouldn't be alarmed or keep their kids from playing.
