Gates, N.Y. - There were no lines, and no waiting at a flu clinic in Gates Monday. The University Of Rochester Medical Center sponsored the clinic at the Italian American Center on Manitou Road.

Joanne Napoli was one of those to get a flu shot. She told us, she didn't feel a thing. She does, however, remember how she felt when she had the flu several years ago.

"I was pretty dehydrated. I was sick for awhile." Napoli recalled.

Martha Benfante is a registered murse at URMC. She was administering the flu vaccine. Benfante said this year's vaccine protects against the same flu strains as last year.

And it's not too early to get vaccinated. It will protect you throughout the flu season.

13WHAM also asked the Monroe County Health Department about the new shorter needles being advertised for flu shots. They penetrate the skin, but not deep into the muscle, as longer shots do.

A Health Department Spokesman told us, the shorter needles are now in a pilot program, but are not widely available here.

He did say all forms of the vaccine offer the same protection against the flu, including injections and the nasal mist.
